Multiplication Word Problems in 3rd Grade

Understanding multiplication word problems in 3rd-grade can be daunting for sure. Truthfully, all the methods can be in place and your lesson can still fall flat. Personally, I feel that in this case, the one thing that is missing deals with whether or not the student is engaged and having fun.

Also, I feel like sometimes required curriculum can fail us, even if it is standards-based.

One day, I tried to dream up an activity that paired with my favorite math strategy (CUBES), that would be a big hit and hit the standards.

Multiplication Word Problem Task Cards

Then, I realized, the most popular thing among students that I know... is their phone... How cute is the phone theme?!

These multiplication within 100 task cards pair perfect with my CUBES math strategy flip book.

The fun thing about these cards that you can share with your students - the names are from my daughter, family, and pets!

Personally, I like to laminate the task cards for durability and reuse. Of course, this step is optional, but super efficient.

Use the task cards in math centers, math rotations, etc...

CUBES Math Strategy and Word Problems

C.U.B.E.S. math strategy is commonly used to teach students how to deconstruct word problems to make them easier to solve.

Circle all the important numbers, underline the question, box all the important math words, evaluate the important words that you may have left out and eliminate what you don't need, and solve the word problem.

This flip book is a compact way for students to review the steps at home or at school. Plus, I always think providing parents with manipulatives to help their kiddos reinforce what they are being taught is a FABULOUS THING! AND this flip book is not 3rd-grade specific so it can be used for many years.

I hate it when I invest in something and later feel like what I purchased was not worth what I paid.

Alternately, I love it when I can provide teachers and homeschool parents with quality resources that they can utilize.

For that reason, I compiled a free resource containing ONE task card out of every task card in my MEGA bundle. That way, teachers can try the resource before they make an investment.
