Like I said above, these multiplication facts fluency flip books have been constructed to introduce multiplication facts in the order in which I prefer to teach them; 0, 1, then 5 and 10. Next, 2, 4, and 8. Then, 3, 6, and 9. Last, the facts for 7 (see the photo below).
Let me ask you a higher level thinking question. What do 5 and 10 have in common? What do 2, 4, and 8 have in common? What about 3, 6, and 9?
Yes, there are many methods to teaching math facts. Arguably, each have their own benefits. Personally, I prefer teaching facts in the method displayed in this flip book because I feel that multiples support number sense and help with decomposing numbers... well and to me it just makes more sense!
Gaining familiarity with factors and multiples isn't required until 4th-grade, but how great would it be to give students a head-start. The opportunity is there, so as math teachers we should take it!
The multiplication fluency flip book covers facts 0-10 and facts 0-12. Exciting news, they are now editable! This way if your district forces you to teach the facts in a different way, you can accommodate their required method.
Students are asked to say the multiplication sentence then, write the multiplication sentence. In this step you could also encourage you students to use the commutative property and write the multiplication sentence in another way.
Also, in the "Write it!" area you could also have students write a division sentence for the multiplication sentence.
I love the idea of laminating and spiral binding the flip books. If you don't have access to a spiral machine, you could use those little binder rings.
